About me

I did my PhD in Würzburg and subsequently moved to Mainz. There, I finished my habilitation at JGU and received the title of apl. professor. Since 1997, I have been a member of Prof. Markl's research group, focusing on molecular animal physiology.

My research included analyzing the molecular and gene structures, evolution and development-specific expression and function of the hemocyanins of Mollusca. But I have also worked on the (molecular) evolution of lesser-known animal species such as Kamptozoa and Sipunculida.

In 2020, I joined the Dormann research group.  My current areas of responsibility range from course representative for B.Sc. “Molecular Biology” and B.Sc. “Biology” to expert for food supplements, genetic engineering, pharmaceuticals & pharmaceutical cannabis. I am also a state-approved pharmaceutical consultant, Erasmus coordinator in the Department of Biology and have permission to obtain and scientifically process special narcotics.

In the context of teaching, I am involved in the basic lecture course in cell biology, the basic practical course in animal physiology, and the zoological course, and I am also involved in a master's course of the AG Dormann.

Together with colleagues, I lead/led marine biology field trips to Banyuls, Giglio, and Florida as well as a limnological focused field trip to the Hunsrück region.

My current main research project, in collaboration with Dr. Felix Mark from the Alfred Wegener Institute in Bremerhaven, is polar cod, which we are investigating as part of a joint project, focusing on the effects of the warming of the Kongsfjord near NyAlesund (79°north) on Svalbard.
